Information about Memo Boards

• Pins & buttons
• Throughout my collection I use a variety of brass/silver/chrome pins or on occasion buttons for effect, allowing the ribbon to be held in place. The width and choice of the pin/button will vary depending on the overall design/effect. Each pin or button is secured firmly to the backing board.

• Ribbons
• Two types of ribbons are used across my collection, depending on the style of the fabric and desired effect. Organza ribbon is lace in effect, so partially transparent and extremely effective. Satin ribbon is my preferred choice, as this suits most designs and comes in a wide range of colours and sizes. Each length of ribbon is secured to the backing board.

• Backing boards
• Typically constructed using cork sheets or lightweight chipboard to allow pins to be used to hold cards, letters etc in place as required. The back of each memo board is always covered neatly by a cardboard backing, covered in a white/cream fabric and glued securely in place.

• Wadding
• Placed in between the backing board and fabric is a generously padded layer of wadding which creates the soft, padding effect. Used in conjuction with the pins and ribbon this enables me to create raised and indented effects in the fabric. The wadding is also wrapped around the sides of each memo board for a neat finish and secured to the backing board.

• Fixings + wall hanging
• Where possible I always try to offer both a portrait and landscape hanging position, however this depends entirely on the choice of fabric pattern used. The fixings will always match the type of pins used, so will either be brass or silver/chrome effect. The fixings also fold back neatly if not required. All fixings are screwed into the memo board frame or backing board.
